JUMPER ONLY SHOW CANCELLED

This Sunday’s May 1st Jumper show has been canceled.  Unfortunately due to the wet weather our contractor has not been able to complete our warm up arena as scheduled.  We are not comfortable holding the show without a safe and proper place for you all to warm up your horses and clients.  We will also need this weekend for our contractor to finish the warm up arena so that we can move forward with our Hunter/Jumper Schooling show on May 7th.

We sincerely apologize to all of you for this cancelation but strongly feel that it is the correct and safe thing to do.  We are planning to adjust the August Schooling Show prize list to offer most of the jumper classes we had planned on for the jumper only show.

Thank you and we hope to see you on May 7th.

Vice President Leslie Cox

APRIL 9 SHOW

The April 9 Show was a great way to start off the season! A big thanks to Blue Heron Farm, Haven Farm, Woodside Stables, and the BI Pony Club for donating panels.

It's not too late to join BISC as a member! Remember, members save $5 on each class entered, earn points for our annual awards program, and are able to use the club on non-show days.

Our next show is the May 1 Jumper-Only! The warm up ring will be ready, barring any extreme weather conditions. Fence heights will range from 2'6" to 3'6", and all classes are $15 to enter with prize money! We hope to see everyone there, whether they are experienced jumper competitors or trying out a new discipline.

SPONSORSHIP

Thanks to all that showed up and volunteered time at the work party. The club looks great!

All shows have sponsors. Thank you to all!

April: BISC
May: Blue Heron Farm
June: Haven Farm
August: Countryman Stables
September: Woodside Stables

WORK PARTY

There will be a work party on Sunday, March 20th at 1:00 PM to clean out stalls, de-cobweb, pick up branches, and generally spruce up the facility before our April 9 feature day playday!

The May 7, June 4, and August 6 schooling shows are still available for sponsorship! Sponsorship is free and allows participating barns to run the show with the assistance of BISC board members and volunteers, design courses, and get their name out in the local equestrian community. Sponsors will be prominately featured on the BISC website and recognized at the 2011 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. Please contact Kristi Barr.

UPDATES

The BISC Board has taken the input from the Show Commitee and decided to run the Jumpers-Only Show (Click [HERE] for more information) on May 1, 2011. A class list is available! Contact Leslie Cox with questions.

Please consider participating in our Feature Day at the April 9 schooling show. The Bainbridge Review will be doing an article on the Saddle Club and local equestrian businesses present at the schooling show. Participants can donate a jump for day use and/or set up a tent to answer questions about their services.

Approved minutes are now available on the Board Meetings page.

WARM UP ARENA TO GET NEW FOOTING AND FENCING

After much discussion, the BISC Board has voted to spend up to $9,000 approved by members at the annual meeting on improvements to the small warm up arena. We are going to be getting new footing installed by Ethan Skyler, who did the work on our large arena back in 2009, and a new fence.

SPONSORSHIP IN 2011

BISC is opening up the May 7, June 4, August 6, and September 24 shows for sponsorship! Sponsorship will be free in 2011, and allows participating barns to run the show with the assistance of BISC board members and volunteers, design courses, and get their name out in the local equestrian community. Sponsors are encouraged to devise a theme for each show (past themes include May Day, Hawaii, and Back-to-School). Sponsors will be prominately featured on the BISC website and recognized at the 2011 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet.
Note: 1/22/11-
The sponsorship for the September 24th show has been claimed. Big thanks to Woodside Stables!

SCHOOLING SHOW DATES ANNOUNCED

The Show Committee has decided on the show dates for 2011.

April 9 (Double Points)
May 7
June 4
August 6
September 24 (Double Points)

The class list has been altered for 2011. Click [Here] to view the new 2011 BISC Class List.

The board has decided to make the first April show Double Points, as well as the September show. Start your show year with BISC and get in a good position for year-end awards! The April show will also be a showcase and open house of local barns and services in the area. BISC encourages local trainers to set up a stand, donate a jump for use during the day, and be present at the show to be available to prospective clients. Please contact Vice President Leslie Cox (see Current Board page) for more information about participating in our April 9th open house.

The board also discussed the possibility of hosting a Jumpers-only show at the beginning of the season. This show would feature a USEF Judge and course designer, jumps that will be seen at A shows, money added back, and more. Heights through 3'6". The goal of this show is to help prepare horses and riders for the 2011 show season by giving an opportunity to school over potentially spooky jumps such as liverpools in a new setting. The date for this event is TBD, but will be announced shortly. Please contact Vice President Leslie Cox for more information.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Calling all members and/or schooling show attendees:
Please submit suggestions for next year's schooling shows to board members. Our shows are put on for our members to enjoy, and we appreciate any and all feedback. Members are encouraged to contact the board members (see Current Board page) throughout the year with ideas that our representatives will bring to meetings. If you have anything from scheduling changes and class additions to club improvements such as the footing in the warm up ring that you would like to see changed, send us an email. To make the changes you would like to see the board needs to know what members want.

Members are also encouraged to attend meetings if they have an important idea that they would like to bring forward and present to the board. Please contact a board member to discuss your idea and find out the date of the next meeting.

ANNUAL MEETING AND AWARDS BANQUET - REVIEW

The annual meeting and awards banquet was a great success. The room at St. Barnabas was masterfully decorated by Jayni Detrick and Trina LaRoche, the food was excellent, and the cake was delicious- as usual! Our raffle and silent auction (a new addition this year) were big hits and helped raise money to offset the costs of the banquet, which is free to attend. Big thanks to everyone who donated items at the awards banquet and annual meeting.

Again, thanks to all our volunteers both at the banquet and various shows throughout the season. You guys make it all possible!

Some important highlights from the annual meeting:

  • New board members were elected: Junior Representatives (serving 1-year terms) Kaylee Cox and Antonia Papajani, and Members at Large Anne Chick and Jeanine Delgado.
  • Important announcement for all show-attendees: please email a board member (contact information can be found on the Current Board page) with suggestions for the 2011 Show Season. We put on these shows for our members, and others in the horse community, and would love to hear your input! If you have anything from scheduling changes and class additions to club improvements such as the footing in the warm up ring that you would like to see changed, send us an email. To make the changes you would like to see we need to know what our members want.
  • Something to remember: Points posted on the webpage are only current through the date and/shows listed above the results. BISC purposefully withholds final point standings to encourage people to come to the awards banquet and build suspense.
  • BISC had a good year financially: we are in the black! Let's help next year be even better beacuse all the money that comes in from the shows goes right back into the club for improvements.
  • We voted to approve the spending of $9,000 to improve the footing in the warm up arena. Whether or not this happens is now in the hands of the Board, who will debate pros and cons before making a decision.
And much more! We hope to see you at our shows in 2011 (look for dates posted in January) and at our banquet and meeting next year!

SPONSORSHIP

Want to get your name out there and promote your business? BISC is offering title sponsorship of each show for free. Sponsorship is a great way to connect with local horsepeople and raise awareness of services you offer. Sponsorship includes free advertising at the show, frequent announcements at the show, recognition at the annual meeting and awards banquet, as well as being prominately posted on our website. Sponsors will be able to design courses, set a theme (past examples include May Day, Hawaii, and Back to School), and provide their own volunteers to enable contact with a multitude of people. BISC will assist in the process of running the show and can provide some volunteers if needed. Contact President Kristi Barr (see Board page) for more information on what sponsorship entails.
