The 2025 BISC Show Season has been meticulously prepared by board members, and supporting members just in time for the 2025 year to begin!

The Performance and Hunter/Jumper website pages are currently in the process of being updated, so please bare with us while the website is getting slowly fixed in time to get sign-up forms and class lists out.

2024 Hunter/Jumper Show Dates

Do you need to lunge your horse at shows? New round pen is going in this week and will be ready for use by the April show.

In April, BISC will host a barefoot trimming demonstration with Kenzie Williamson of Island Hoofcare.

Coming soon: Working Equitation clinics with Kyra Gautesen, dates to be announced.

Membership Dues Increase

While reviewing budget preparations for 2024 the BISC board unanimously voted to increase membership dues. Family memberships have been renamed to “Household” membership and are available for up to 6 people living in the same household. Household Memberships are $175 per year, Individual Membership has increased to $100 per year and Supporting (non-riding) Membership remains at $40 per year. Memberships are due on March 1^st of each year.

A $25 initiation fee is added for all new memberships and memberships that have lapsed past the renewal date. The additional fee is to offset the administrative cost of setting up new memberships and updating those that have lapsed. The $25 fee will apply this year if you renew your membership after March 31^st.

I’m not a new member, how do I know if I need to pay the $25 fee?

If you were a member in 2023 and you renew your membership before April 1^st you do not have to pay the $25. If you were not a member in 2023 or you are renewing your membership after March 31^st the $25 fee is required. There is a check box on the membership renewal form that will apply the fee.

Spring Clean Up Party and General Membership Meeting

Saturday March 23rd at 10:00am

Our annual Spring Clean Up is scheduled for Saturday, March 23^rd from 10:00am – 2:00pm. We will start the day with a quick General Membership meeting to review the 2024 budget. Our bylaws require a meeting for our membership to review and vote on approval of the budget. To qualify to vote your membership will need to be up to date for 2024 prior to the General Membership meeting.

How do I know if I am qualified to vote at the General Membership Meeting?

You are qualified to vote if you are a Senior (18 years +) member with a 2024 membership.

Bathroom Project Update

The bathroom renovations are underway! Plumbing rough in is complete and electrical is in progress. A big thank you to our contractor Bryan Kramer for amazing work on the project.

BISC Bathroom Renovations Fundraiser

The bathrooms at the club are in serious need of repair and renovation. Built over 40 years ago and serving over 200 users per summer the bathrooms have surpassed their lifespan. Broken pipes, torn out walls, outdated toilets and rodent infestation all led to the rental of a Porta Potty in order to have a reliable bathroom option.

Bainbridge Island Saddle Club was awarded a $7,500 grant to renovate our bathrooms. A generous donor matched the grant bringing us to a total of $14,000. Estimated cost of the project is $22,000. We need to raise the remaining $7,000 by October 31st in order to retain the Rotary grant.

BISC is looking for donations to meet the $7,000 need prior to the October 31st deadline. Can you help?

What: Join the Park District’s trails team and the Bainbridge Island Parks and Trails Foundation in maintaining trails of Manzanita Park, a 120-acre woodland of diverse native plant communities.

Equestrian Trails Need Your Support

Please join us for a trails work party in Mazanita Park right next to the Bainbridge Island Saddle Club. The 120 acres of trails is one of the best places for a trail ride on the Island. Main Arena Closed for Watering 5/10-5/12

We are expecting warm, dry weather ahead of this Saturday's show. The main arena will be closed for watering starting Wednesday, May 10th in order to get ahead of the dust. The warm up arena is open for member use.

Thank You Volunteers!

Thank you to all the volunteers who made our work party in March, and our April show a huge success! Every role plays a part, from cleaning up the grounds after the winter, to mowing before the show, setting fences, managing the show office, running the back gate, giving out awards, and cleaning up after the show. We couldn’t do it without all our incredible volunteers!

Bathroom Refresh – Rotary Grant Challenge

BISC recently applied for a community grant from the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island to update the bathrooms at the Saddle Club. If you have used the bathrooms in the past year, you may be aware that they are in dire need of repair. The quote for the work came back at just over $22,000. Rotary has awarded the club a challenge grant for $7500. To claim the grant, the club needs to raise the reminder of the funds by October 1^st. We have a matching donation from a generous donor for $7500. This leaves us with $7,000 left to raise to receive the Rotary grant. The BISC Board is gathering additional quotes for the project and looking at ways to keep the costs down. We will be getting you more information soon, including the best way to donate and what the bathroom improvements will look like.

Membership – Have you renewed for 2023?

By renewing your BISC membership you help provide funds for preserving, improving, and maintaining our member owned facility. Strong membership numbers each year allow us to protect our 8.3 Bainbridge Island acres and preserves the club for future generations of horsemen/women. Membership also gives you year-round use of the club, discounted show fees and early registration. Did you know that we have a membership option for non-riding members who want to support the club? The Supporting Membership is available for $40.00 annually and is for social and unmounted participation. Many of our supporting members are long time club members who no longer ride or have moved out of the area but want to support the club. You can renew your membership directly on the website

Year End Banquet – Ticket Price Increase

The BISC Year End Banquet has traditionally been our top fundraiser. In reviewing the budget, it also stands out as one of our larger expenses. Last year the costs for the banquet came in a just over $3800, while the ticket sales brought in $1600. The board has agreed to increase the banquet ticket price to $25.00. This will help cover the caterer expense and the facility rental. We look forward to seeing all of you there on November 4^th, 2023.

BISC Junior Board

Thank you to Kylee Stanton Hicks for organizing our BISC Jr. Board! Jr. Board has new members and are busy taking on new projects. 2023 BISC Jr. Board members are as follows: Helena Janof, Charlotte D’amico, Adelyn Mathews, Genevieve Kramer, Maddie Gilfedder, Sierra Berry, and Zoe Siebert. The Jr. Board is looking to take on several exciting projects including working with the Park District on repairing the cross-country course in Manzanita Park, hosting a clinic and fundraising. Dressage Schooling Show – September 24^th

We are excited to announce that Dressage Shows are back! This year’s show will be held on September 24^th. BISC dressage shows provide the opportunity to ride a dressage test in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere of a schooling show. Perfect for riders new to competition or young horses starting their show careers. Classes offered range from Intro Level all the way to 4th (2023 USDF test), Dressage Seat Equitation, 2022 USEF Eventing dressage tests and USEF Western dressage tests.

Prizes: 1-5 place ribbons awarded in each class along with some fun awards such as the Matchy Matchy award, Dusty Bum, and prize for 9s.

Our next show is Saturday, May 13^th, and we look forward to seeing everyone as we celebrate Mother’s Day. Member registration opens on April 30^th on the BISC website.

Horses are starting to shed and the green grass is starting to grow again. Spring is on the way and with it comes good times at the Bainbridge Island Saddle Club!

New Board Members

They join our existing board of Alexandra Cuellar, Amy Driggers Janof, Kathy Countryman, Kylee Stanton Hicks, Max Kleinman, Meghan Lawson, Soomie Ahn Sorenson, Melissa Davis and Junior Board members Helena Janoff and Grey Peters.

Members are welcome to attend BISC Board meetings which are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month (February is an exception and will be on the 28th.) Volunteer Opportunities - Treasurer and Fundraising Chair

The club has 2 critical areas where volunteers are needed.These are essential roles for the club.

Treasurer - Our amazing Treasurer Kylee Stanton Hicks has spent several years in the role and would like to take on a new role. We need a club member to step up to the Treasurer role. The Treasurer manages and keep records of cash flow and bills, provides financial reports at the monthly board meetings, and works closely with the bookkeeper. The BISC Treasurer will need to join the BISC Board of Directors. Please consider this volunteer role. If interested contact Kylee at BISCTreasurer98110@gmail.com

Fundraising Chair - As a non-profit we have the ability to raise tax deductible funds for improvements to the club. Do you have experience in non-profit fundraising? We are in need of direction and guidance on how to best utilize our non-profit status. The club needs your help! Water is Off!

The water at the club has been turned off for an ongoing plumbing issue. Once repaired it will remain off for the winter to prevent freeze breaks. Please plan to bring water for your horses when you haul in. The porta potty will be available year round.

BISC Autumn Newsletter

Thank you for another wonderful event season at the Bainbridge Island Saddle Club. Traditionally we celebrate the end of the season with our year end banquet. After a two-year pause, we are thrilled to be hosting the year end banquet on November 5^th, at 5:30pm at Island School. The evening will include a catered dinner, short general meeting, dessert dash and awards ceremony. Don’t miss out on this fun event!

Registration is required, ticket prices ($10 for adults, $5 ages 5-12) allow us to offset the catering costs. In the past, the banquet has been members only, but we would like to invite anyone who is interested in becoming a member to attend and see what we are all about!

Update:

Volunteer Hours Requirement Put on Hold
At the Spring General Meeting the membership voted to require a minimum number of volunteer hours to qualify for year-end awards. At a recent board meeting the BISC Board voted to not require the hours this year due to lack of hour tracking. We would love to hear your ideas on how to best coordinate and track volunteer work going forward.

At this time the meetings are held via Zoom, with hybrid meetings returning this summer at the club. We are taking board member nominations now through November. We currently have 5 board member positions open. Do you know of anyone who would be a great addition to the Bainbridge Island Saddle Club Board? Board members participate in the monthly board meetings and chair one of our committees. Our current members have all levels of equestrian experience, from non-riding parents to people with many years of riding experience; if you are a self-starter, motivated individual who is interested in supporting the local riding community, preserving a valuable piece of Kitsap County riding history, and helping BISC share our mission statement, we'd love to have you!

Fun Fact:

BISC History - Day Road Facility

Our current Bainbridge Island Saddle Club property was purchased in February of 1969 for $12,750! With a down payment of $3,200 and an interest rate of 7.5% a group of like-minded volunteers secured the unique property that is ours today. I am continually in awe of the groups of volunteers over the 53 years that have continued to provide this amazing resource to the local equestrian community.

Summer is here and the event season is underway at Bainbridge Island Saddle Club. This newsletter will bring you up to speed on scheduled events at the club. You can register for all clinics and shows on the Events page of our website.

BIPC Camp at BISC July 11th through July 14th

We are excited to have the Bainbridge Island Pony Club return for their annual camp at Bainbridge Island Saddle Club. The grounds will be closed to members from Monday, July 11th through Thursday, July 14th as the Pony Club has rented it for exclusive use. The grounds will be open to members on Friday, July 15th.

Cavaletti Clinic, Sunday July 17th with Christine Headley

Join us on Sunday, July 17th for a cavaletti clinic with Chrisine Headley. Christine is a USDF Bronze Medalist, USPC "A" Graduate and USDF Certified instructor. The clinic is open to all ages, disciplines and riding levels. We will have a fun set of pole exercises in the arena to focus on rhythm, tempo, straightness and suppleness - all of the principles required for balance and free forward movement. There will also be special attention from the clinician on the various ways that your position can help your horse to better understand your aids & communicate with your horse. August 13th, Hunter/Jumper show has new classes!

Exciting announcement for our August 13th Hunter/Jumper show! We are adding two 1.0m classes and two 1.10m classes! Member registration opens on Monday, July 25th, general registration opens Monday, August 1st. Registration closes on Sunday, August 7th. Full class list is available on the website.

Mounted Archery Clinic August 20th - 21st

We are bringing back the Mounted Archery from the Ground Up clinic that was a big hit last year. Our clinician Carmen Frentress will cover Ground Archery, Archery Horsemanship, Starting Your Horse and Advancing towards competition. All archery equipment is provided, intermediate riding skill recommended. We have one riding spot left and multiple auditor spots remaining. Sign Up here. Capital Improvement - Water Trailer

At the general membership meeting on March 6^th, the club approved the purchase of a water trailer. The board promised the membership at that time that we would first ensure that our well could fill the water trailer prior to moving ahead with purchase. We are still working on those details. This means we are back to using our water wheel for the summer events which takes several shifts the day prior to an event. If you are available to help with watering the arena prior to any of our scheduled events, please drop us an email at bainbridgesaddleclub@gmail.com and we will get you on the schedule.

Registration for Mounted Archery Clinic is Open!

We are bringing Lisa Badger back for another Mounted Archery from the Ground Up clinic at BISC, August 20th - 21st. The clinic will cover ground archery, Archery Horsemanship, Starting your Horse and Advancing towards Competition.

Beginner level mounted archers welcome, all archery gear included. Intermediate riding skills recommended (walk, trot, canter confidently on a loose rein and remain in control).

This clinic was a big hit last year! All riders were shooting off their horses by the end of the first day.

Spring Newsletter - Important Updates

Horses are shedding, rain is in the foreseeable forecast and if you listen close you can hear the grass growing! Spring is here and so is the beginning of the show and event season for Bainbridge Island Saddle Club! We are excited to have our horse community back at the club this year.

Volunteer Hours

The Bainbridge Island Saddle Club Board voted to approve the requirement of volunteer hours to qualify for year-end awards. As a non-profit, volunteer run organization our members are the backbone of our club. Volunteers are needed for all aspects of running the club, from organizing events, coordinating volunteers, fundraising, and keeping our facilities pristine and operational. Here are the volunteer hour requirements for 2022:

6 years and under – exempt

6-12 years old – 2 hours per year

13 and over – 10 hours per year

Family Membership – 15 hours per year

Facilities Committee Chair Needed

The club has an opening for a Facilities Committee Chair. The Committee Chair organizes the work that needs to be done at the club from mowing, arena dragging, capital improvement and repairs. This is a great way to meet your volunteer hours and working with other members. Please reach out to Melissa Davis if you are available.

Upcoming Events

Sunday, March 20^th 10:00am Volunteers Needed:

Work party to complete the storage shed which will house the supplies that are currently taking up space in one of the bathrooms. We need a few extra sets of hand to help complete the storage shed. All hours worked count towards the volunteer hours requirements.

Saturday, March 26^th 10:00am – 2:00pm Spring Clean Up:

Our annual event to get the club ready for show season! We need many hands for this one. Bring garden tools, gloves, leaf blowers, and weed whackers. All hours worked count towards the volunteer hours requirements.

April 9^th – Hunter/Jumper Show is cancelled

Due to the recent EVH-1 outbreak, the BISC board has decided to err on the side of caution and cancel our April 9^th show. We are looking to add another Hunter/Jumper show on October 1^st. Our first show of the season is on May 7^th.

2022 Events

Keep an eye on the events page on the website. We plan to hold several clinics this year including Mounted Archery, Cavaletti, and Ride Physio. If you are interested in hosting a clinic for the discipline of your choice, please reach out to the board.

The club will offer one Dressage schooling show this year, tentatively scheduled for August 27^th.

Capital Improvement – Water Trailer

At the general membership meeting on March 6^th, the club approved the purchase of a water trailer. Estimated cost is $12,000. This will allow us to water the arena more efficiently for shows and clinics held during the summer. Before purchasing the trailer, we are exploring options for filling the 1,000-gallon tank. The most affordable option may be to add a holding tank to the well house for filling the water trailer. If you have any expertise in this area please reach out with your suggestions.

COVID and the 2020 Show Season

As you are all aware, COVID-19 has had a significant impact on everything we do. With the current restriction and no clear picture of what the immediate future holds, the Board has made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining events for 2020. We are still planning additional virtual events but until Kitsap County moves to a phase where gatherings of 50 people or more are allowed, it is not feasible to host an in person show.

Additionally, we are investigating the possibility of holding events that entail just a few people being at the club at any point in time. If you have ideas on that front, please let us know!

Finally, some barns are holding schooling rounds at the club. If your barn is interested in doing so, please contact us. We will also be setting up the dressage court on a regular basis for any of you that want to practice and/or want to use the club to film a test for the virtual shows that are happening. Please keep an eye on the News posts on our website for information about these events.

Reserve time on Jumper Course set on Monday 6/29

Mollie Bogardus will be setting a jumper course at the Club on Monday 6/29 for schooling. Any trainer who wants to follow her group and bring riders over for off-site training can reserve a time starting in the afternoon; contact Jackie Flannery 206-747-1734. Last group to come would be on task to put away jumps. We can extend out another day if multiple barns reserve. Since this is not an insured “open” event, all must be current members and trainers will need a certificate of insurance on file with BISC as named insured. Current WA and BISC Covid19 guidelines apply. Mollie is hoping to do this monthly.

Private Equestrian Yoga Sessions Offered to Benefit BISC

What a fantastic "Yoga For The Equestrian" workshop this morning, led by Michelle Hutchins. As someone who has carried a disdain for yoga due to a bad first experience, I am now a convert! She took us through a workout tailored to address the issues equestrians face both in and outside of the competition arena, and explained the connections and tools yoga offers specifically for our sport.

As a follow-on, Michelle is offering a private virtual series of three 60-minute classes for $99 to anyone interested. She is generously donating all proceeds to BISC for the first registrant.

COVID-19 Announcement March and April Event Cancellations

Your health, safety and well-being and that of your horses is paramount to BISC. We, just like you, have been monitoring the communications and information provided by the public officials and experts regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Effective immediately, all on site BISC events scheduled through the month of April will be cancelled. This includes our Spring Clean Up and April Dressage and Hunter Jumper shows. The Jen Verharen Peak Performance Workshop will be held in a virtual fashion at a discounted price. We will reschedule the Spring Clean Up as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this causes our membership. As information and updates regarding COVID are provided, we will update you regarding the status of events scheduled after April.

Bainbridge Island Saddle Club is in need of a small reliable tractor to groom riding arenas and pull a drag. Looking for a 24-31 hp, 4WD with ag tires, front bucket and a 3 point hitch.

We also need to upgrade our arena drag.

Commitment includes monthly meetings and hands-on help to fit your personal bandwidth. We would like representation from each discipline, multiple barns and both men and women. And being an equestrian is not a requisite!

We also have one Junior position. In addition to monthly board meetings, responsibilities include yr-end slide presentation, leading special youth tasks at spring cleanup, and being available to help as needed at events.

Open committee chairs that don't require sitting on the board include: Spring Cleanup, Tack Sale/Merchandise, Ribbons and Awards, Individual Show Managers, Spring Banquet.

We love the Saddle Club and want to keep it successful and thriving for years to come. So come join the team!

Gaming Event Start Time CHANGED to 10am

Since so many of our members are away at Cle Elum or on vacation, we have decided to scale back our Gaming Event on Saturday.

We will skip the schooling jump course and begin our event with the Equestrian Games at 10am, followed by a group trail ride through Manzanita Park. A Picnic Lunch will be served back at the Club House.

Suggested donation: $10, in lieu of $/ride.

A special shoutout this morning to thank Janet Grunbok for all her help keeping the arenas dragged for the LPSDC dressage event this weekend. What a huge help this been. If you have not made it over to the show, stop by to watch a few rides. It will be going until 5:30pm tonight.

This is a great opportunity for newbies and experienced riders to get helpful feedback and immediately be able to apply it. Then take these learnings into competition the very next day at the show.

Spring Dressage Show Cancelled

We are sorry to announce that the number of registrations did not meet the minimum threshold by the registration closing date to hold the spring dressage show. Registrants will be receiving full refunds...emails being sent with details.

Also, the reserved schooling that was being considered for this Saturday in lieu of the show, will not be offered. So sorry. The arena will be open to all members, as usual.

However...We are excited for the Fall dressage show on October 5. With additional promotion, we are very hopeful that we will have a full show. Please help spread the word... And keep in mind that registrations must be in by the registration closing date!!

Arena Grooming This Week 5/1-5/3

In prep for the busy the show month, the arenas are undergoing a special grooming starting to today.

Today you may ride in an arena if not being actively watered. But starting tomorrow (Thursday) 10am, the main arena will be closed until Saturday for grooming and show setup. Please feel free to use the warmup arena if not being actively groomed.

All New Jumper Classes for May 4 HJ Show!

We have expanded our offering of Jumper classes for our upcoming show on Saturday, May 4. We are now offering .65m (OT), .75m, .85m and .95m. See new prize list on show event page.

As you can see, classes have been reclassified into meters to align with rated shows. These will be split into two DAILY HIGH POINTS:

Low Jumpers: .65m and .75m
High Jumpers: .85m and .95m

The .65m will be run as Optimum Time (OT), where the cleanest round closest (over and under) to the posted Optimum Time wins. Please note: No cross-entry between .65m and .95m. Only one high-point will be awarded to a horse/rider combo per show. Points will be accrued only on first four jumper classes per show, or a total of six classes overall per show.

We hope this will better serve our new and more experienced jumpers, and help level the playing field for all jumpers.

Dear Members and Prospects,

The website is now ready to accept your membership renewals and new signups for the upcoming season! Your old accounts and profiles have been wiped away to make way for new profile fields and membership levels. All of us will need to proceed to the MEMBERSHIP - JOIN NOW menu to create an all-new fresh account. The membership term ends on March 1, so don't wait.

Membership applications are PAPERLESS beginning this year as part of our emphasis on simplification and cost management. This means that if you haven't completed the membership application online before the first show, you will be able to use your mobile device or an office iPad or laptop to fill it out at the show office window and submit it there on the spot! However, given how crazy show mornings can be, you will definitely want to leisurely take care of this before you arrive.

Membership dues may be paid online with credit card or Paypal when completing your application, or you may mail in a check with your printed invoice. Cash is also accepted at the show office window.

We will still need a hardcopy of your parent-signed liability waiver and club use agreement if you don't already have that one on file from a previous year. We regret that your membership cannot be approved until this is provided.

You will notice a few changes online:

All individual riders will now use a single INDIVIDUAL membership level, regardless of age
Non-riding members may choose a lower cost SUPPORT membership level
Trainers now get to choose amongst the INDIVIDUAL or FAMILY memberships
We all are asked to specify our DOB to help point calculations run efficiently. (Don't worry, we will keep this info close to our chest!)

As a volunteer member organization, we are asking that all members target a minimum of 6 hours of volunteer time each year. There is a wide range of onsite as well as remote jobs to choose from to fit your interests and needs.

Many other organizational and content changes were made on the website as well, with the intent to simplify and clarify. We still have a ways to go, but we hope you will agree that we are making progress!

Community-wide Equestrian Trail Work Party

Saturday 2/2, 9am-12pm, has been designated an EQUESTRIAN TRAIL WORK PARTY at Manzanita Park, adjacent to the Club. This is an opportunity to groom the trails at Manzanita Park (rather than our equines) and show the community that we truly appreciate the use of the park trail system.

It's also an opportunity to support BI Parks & Rec who maintains the trails we use and love, as well as the access road to our Club!

Also come hear about the effort underway to renovate the cross country jumps and how you might get involved... AND, a brief BISC general member meeting will immediately follow at the Club that members are encouraged to attend.

Don't forget to bring work gloves, shovels, loppers, clippers, etc and please RSVP on Nextdoor Bainbridge or to bainbridgesaddleclub@gmail.com so we can help BI Parks & Rec know how many to expect. Community service hours will be offered.

We have a slight changing of the guards...

Jackie Chipman has decided to decline the position of vice-president for 2019. She is going to stay true to her earlier personal conviction that it is time for her to step down from the board after many years. However, she has promised not to disappear completely so you will still see her around the club! Please join me in a hearty thanks for her lengthy and devoted service. BISC is truly indebted to her.

Please welcome Pam Knudsen into the VP role! Pam was already voted onto the Board at the 2018 Annual Members meeting & Awards Banquet in October. She is a long time horse owner, private barn owner, current dressage rider and past board member of other clubs, who you will find is very capable, enthusiast and full of energy and great ideas. Welcome, Pam!

Good Morning Trail Volunteers

Our monthly trail work party is next Saturday, September 22^nd on the Veterane Trail 10am-1pm. Please meet at the Crystal Springs Drive entrance at 10am. There is street parking along the shoreline and on Baker Hill. We will be working to open up the trail corridor and inspect/repair any potential hazard spots. Erik will bring an assortment of tools, but feel free to bring along your trusty loppers.

Equestrian Games with BBQ and Members' Meeting

An exciting Member Event is coming up this Saturday, July 7.

Schelule of Events:

9am Equestrian games
11:30am Barbeque lunch
12:30pm Member meeting

We will enjoy of morning of fun equestrian games (free) and schooling courses ($3 ea) with a complimentary BBQ, followed by short meeting in which the Board will be discussing our efforts to finally secure 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt status for our Club. We will present what has led us to pursue changing status, the benefits, and the time-line of this process. Our legal counsel, Kol Medina, will be with us to answer questions. The meeting will conclude with vote to adjust our By-Laws to better align to the federal 501(c)(3) criteria.

If you are not a currently member but would like to participate in this event and help shape the future of the Club, please feel free to become a member and join us!

Event Description: Come join us for a morning of fun and games followed by a BBQ and brief membership meeting. We will set courses at 3 or 4 different heights to accommodate different ages and ability levels. Each schooling round will cost $3. The schooling rounds will be followed by an assortment of equestrian games: ride a "buck", egg & spoon and streamer team to name a few.... all free of charge. Also included is a casual BBQ lunch compliments of BISC. This is a member event but non-members are welcome to ride too if they wish by simply joining the club :) . An "event" level, weekend membership is always an option, but does not hold voting privileges. We hope to see you on the 7th. Please let us know if you can come and if you need a stall. Grand Forest West Trail Work Party

Equestrians, come on out to help support the trails we and our horses use and love!

BI Metro Parks & Rec will be working on upgrading the trails at the south end of the park to match the Class One trail system in the majority of Grand Forest West.

Parking is available in the small lot off Miller Road and along the shoulder. Please use caution when walking to the trailhead at the Miller Road parking lot. Tools will be available, but are in limited supply, so feel free to bring that favorite shovel, rake, or loppers.

Main Arena Watering Thu-Sat

The main arena is being watered from now until Saturday in preparation for the Pony Club certification testing on Sunday. You may ride in the arena during this time, but please do not move the waterwheel or hose. You can turn off the water and move the electrical cord.

The pony club certification this Sunday will not result in a closed club for the rest of the members, but the main arena will be closed Saturday evening and Sunday due to jumps being in the arena. Feel free to use the rest of the facilities; just be aware that they will be busier than usual.

Liability Release Waiver and Show Entry Form

We hate bureaucracy as much as the next person, but to satisfy the requirements of our insurance, we must have a signed original of our Member Liability Release Waiver for each member. Without it, the member will not be permitted to ride at the Saddle Club, or participate in our shows.

Only parents/legal guardians can sign these waivers for minors (under 18 years of age); trainers or chaperones may not sign on their behalf
Each adult on a family membership will need their own Liability Release Waiver, including minors who turn 18 during membership term
This will be kept on file for future shows and membership terms

Secondly, show entry forms require a signature of parents/guardian to authorize their child to participate.

If your child will be competing in a show without you present, please make certain to send this completed and signed form with them. Trainers and chaperones may not sign on the parents' behalf.

Grand Forest trail maintenance work party

Board Members Needed!

At the conclusion of this season, I will be stepping down as president of the club. I will stay on board to help guide the next president in their duties and responsibilities but will be drastically reducing my time spent doing BISC work. With this in mind, I implore members to consider joining the governing board of the Saddle Club. There will be 3 member at large openings in 2018. Without filling these slots, the club will have no choice but to curtail some of its shows or worse. For too long, too few have been doing too much. Now it is time to step up and volunteer for Saddle Club.

Insurance / Club Closure

We are very close to solving our insurance dilemma.

I expect to reopen the club in a day or so.

This hiccup in coverage was the result of our carrier leaving the State of Washington and did not reflect upon our excellent risk profile.

Finding coverage took a bit of time because we needed to entertain different bids from different agencies.

This closure will be over soon and will not effect any of our scheduled events in August and September.

We are looking very forward to partnering with the Lower Puget Sound Dressage Club the weekend of August 11-12-13, hosting our 4th (double points) Hunter/Jumper Show August 19th, hosting our final Hunter/Jumper Show on September 23rd and hosting our second Dressage Schooling Show on October 6-7.

Dressage Weekend at BISC, Arenas closed Thursday afternoon - Sunday afternoon

Starting Thursday afternoon with the set up of the dressage court, both BISC arenas will be closed. This is a big weekend at BISC; on Friday dressage schooling rounds are scheduled, on Saturday we are hosting our Spring Dressage Schooling Show and on Sunday the BI Pony Club is piggy backing on our set up and hosting a Dressage Rally. It promises to be a fun, dressage filled few days!

Puget Sound Energy is doing some electrical line improvements in the Day Road area and needs to pass through Saddle Club for some of their work.

The main road in and out of the club is a bit torn up and there are large pieces of equipment strewn about the area.

It may be impossible to drive a trailer in or around the circle in the next few days. There will be holes in the ground and ditches to avoid so best to stay clear of the club for a few days.

Work should be concluded by Thursday.

Arenas Closed for Show Set Up and Maintenance 4/6 & 4/7

Both the main and warm up arenas will be closed Thursday, April 6th, and Friday, April 7th, for maintenance and set up relating to the show on Saturday.

Changes to Show Schedule on Saturday

Due to projected attendance shortfalls Saddle Club is taking two actions:
- starting the show later at 9am NOT 8am
- consolidating classes to the Jumper section

Due to the lower projected attendance at this show, we will be expanding our Jumper section to accommodate more levels of fences and cancelling our Hunter section. However, since we anticipate a limited audience, we will remain flexible and will work closely with those in attendance to accommodate their wishes. If demand exists, we will add both 2' and 2'3" sections.

Warm up will be available before the 9am start of the show.

Tree work and Saddle Club improvements!

We will be trimming some low and dangerous limbs at the Saddle Club on Monday and Tuesday, April 3 & 4. Please avoid riding at and through the club on those days.

The Spring Clean Up is an essential day for our club; it is the day we all come together and prepare the club after the winter's storms for the coming show season. Together, many hands make light work. Also, a delicious complimentary lunch is included for workers and... member volunteers earn one free schooling show entry! More to come on this event. 2017 Hunter Jumper Schooling Show Dates

We are in the process of determining our 2017 Hunter Jumper Schooling Show dates. Our site's calendar reflects some of our dates but not all of them. We are currently trying to determine whether to host our April show on the 1st or the 8th of the month. Also, due to scheduling conflicts at the club, we need to host our August show later in the month, on the 19th which may also prove a conflict for some. Finally, we are considering hosting the the banquet on the first Saturday of November, 11/4. Please reply in the comments section with your thoughts. There are currently no events scheduled for the notoriously busy month of July but if members would prefer a July show to say an August show, let us know!
